OUR STORY
Maurice Dorsey Sr. was a Detroit Native who came to Texas to play collegiate basketball at Ranger Junior College, Baylor University, and East Central University. He started his coaching career in the early 90's in Dallas ISD, Garland ISD and Lancaster ISD. For 30 years he devoted his life the game of basketball. He inspired the lives of many athletes, professionals, and friends from generation to generation across the nation. Coach Dorsey spent his summers dedicating his time and efforts to the Dallas Mavs Academy.
In 2018, Coach Dorsey was diagnosed with Stage 3 Multiple Myeloma. Even in spite of his diagnosis, he still decided to give more to the next generation through teaching. He continued to pour into the lives of others each day, and to encourage change on and off the court. After his passing in June of 2019, a Scholarship foundation was created to honor his legacy and to award graduating student athletes in DFW.
